What do you do when it’s pouring rain, freezing cold and you have a little time on your hands?
Head off on a shopping/antiquing sojourn to the Highlands that’s what!!!!
Good friends offered to mind our younger grubs so we could have some quality time with our big kids for the weekend, so we took full advantage and jumped in our car and headed up the mountain to the Southern Highlands of NSW.
Since beginning fostering (best thing you will ever do) over 5 years ago, we haven’t had many chances to chill out with our big kids. The little ones are beautiful and bless our lives so much, but it sure was nice to make great memories with our biological children.
We showed our new sons some new experiences (antiquing was a foreign word until this weekend!) We began at our favourite Bowral haunt…if you haven’t been to Dirty Janes, then you are missing out! Out the back is a warehouse where over 20 vendors display their old/repurposed/vintage/rustic wares. It seems that others have found it too, as prices have increased dramatically since the last time we visited, but it was still great fun.
You can read more about Dirty Jane’s at Coty Farquhar’s blog.
My 13 year old and I shared our secret hideaway with the rest of the family…letting them into our world of books at Berkelouw Book Barn in Berrima.
Temperatures never got over 5 degrees, and the rain didn’t look like it was going to stop, so we ventured to the Lolly Shop in Berrima, then onto some more antique shops in Mittagong.
The next day was a little drier, so we decided a game of golf was in order.
Apparently 9 holes of golf should take 90 minutes or so, but we managed to break the slow golf record of 180 minutes (3 hours!). We had disgruntled golfers in their sexy leggings and golf shoes impatiently drumming their fingers behind us, so we let them play through, and then off we went again.
Rick is pointing to where the ball should be going, but many times we managed to get it onto the fairway of the next hole over! I think we lost about 10 balls all up.
Jett found an exploding golf ball at a discount shop in Bowral, and took great delight in frightening the pro-golfers waiting to play through with her action shot!
We ate delicious food, (Piasevoli’s in Mittagong make the best wood fired pizza!), played games and cards, shopped and laughed ourselves silly.
I managed to find some great items that will make their way into products for our open house in December on December 3rd.
For now, it’s back to getting everything together for our women’s fundraiser event this weekend. It’s all systems go!!!!!!
Looking forward to sharing the highlights of the day with you next week.
Much love from our home to yours,’
Shani
