Stop my beating heart!!!!!!!!!!!!
Come clean…are you an apron wearer?!
The principle use of Grandma’s apron was to protect the dress underneath, because she only had a few, it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and they used less material, but along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.
It was wonderful for drying children’s tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears. From the chook house, the apron was used for carrying eggs, and sometimes fussy chicks.
Chips and kindling were brought into the kitchen in that apron. From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.
In the autumn, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.
When visitors dropped in unexpectedly, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds!
When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in from the paddocks for dinner.
It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that old time apron that served so many purposes.
People would probably go crazy now trying to figure out just how many germs were on that apron, but the only thing I caught from it was LOVE :)
I love my aprons and I will continue to wear them with pride, remembering generations of women who have made home the heart of their life!
COWGIRL COUTURE – AGE 3
I’m in the process of writing some copy for our grown-up company’s website, to share the process of how my husband and I came about owning a construction company, and the love we have of country/cowboy culture.
Even though I grew up in the suburbs, my love for country and in particular cowboys in chaps started real early!
I didn’t care that the boys were my brother and cousin, I was a sucker for anything with spurs and fringing!
I need some help, a kind of focus group if you like!!
When you think of the word
COWBOY,
and the word
COUNTRY,
what immediately comes to your mind?
Please let me know, it will help us so much with the branding of our company, and how we will seek to market ourselves.
for a little look at what we do for a day-job, head on over to www.talonconstructiongroup.com.au
Amazing Grace, and mamas that can shoot!
Don’t mess with a mama who knows how to shoot!
And so began our weekend in the wilderness…camping, hiking, shooting, biking, swimming in the dam, showering under the stars, cooking by firelight, eating freshly killed goat cooked under the coals in the camp oven (absolutely beautiful!!!)
There was the keeper of hats,
The camp clown who kept us all laughing,
(How come they can look so stylish after three days without brushes, mirrors or makeup?!!)
Kids on hikes
Firelight,
Family bonding,
breathing in fresh country air and gorgeous views,
watching our feathered friend, the eagle, as he followed us every day
and spending time thanking Jesus for making a way for us.
(If you look really closely, you can see our camp way down below!)
If you’re ever hiking in the Warrambungles, and you see this cross, you know where it came from. We may have put it there, but its meaning and purpose are far beyond us.
This video says it all………………..
Building, boys, and the uncommon life!
Been doing a bit of PR/marketing for our company, and got the boys geared up in our new corporate wear for some photo-styling fun!
They looked so handsome, you wouldn’t know these two sons of ours almost live in the ocean…they fit right into the country style gear beautifully!
It seems such a contradiction that we build urban spaces, mostly concrete and steel structures, yet live in a small country town and love chippy timber and old things!
LOVING this quote today:
”When you can do the common things of life in an uncommon way,
you will command the attention of the world”
{George Washington Carver}
Am in the middle of some exciting new developments for our firm, as well as a new concept for a retail space which is keeping me from sleeping!!! And in the midst of all this, we Christmas River girls are off to COLOUR Conference this week.
This was last year’s opening…can’t wait to see what amazing stuff they get up to this year!

Much love from our house to yours,

A glimpse into my (countrified) soul
I sometimes feel a bit like a lone reed in the area I live…Even though it’s a rural area, there aren’t too many people around me that love country music, cowgirl boots and jeans, and ‘get’ the life that goes with it!
I know I should be living somewhere like Tamworth, where all of these things blend seamlessly, but that’s just not possible….so I want to bring to you the spirit and fun of what this kinda life looks like. Mix a bit of Dixie Chicks, Keith Urban, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Gena Jeffries, Carrie Underwood, Alannah Myles, Deanna Carter and play it loud!
and then, sit back and watch this clip of some of the most courageous, outrageous, rocking country women who are doing what I would LOVE TO DO!
Head on over to Sheplers.com and buy yourself some cowgirl boots (wait till there’s a sale on!!) Can you see me yourself in these?
then, get to your nearest op-shop and go currraazzzy in the jeans department….the more worn the better.
and to make sure they don’t fall down, you will need a belt…with a cracking buckle if possible :)
and just because a post on bearing my soul wouldn’t be complete without him, here he is….
My husband knows how I feel, it’s ok! My cowboy will always be No 1! . He knows how to make my heart sing (even if he does sound just like Keithy in my brain! Haha)
Blessings,
x0x0
